The par 71, 18 hole championship course was designed by Rick Robbins. He was given instructions to find the best 18 holes anywhere on the 450 acre parcel, and he succeeded with a superb layout that he feels may be his best design to date. The holes are routed through a dramatic setting of mountain meadows, streams and natural rock landscapes. Elevated tees provide magnificent views in every direction. No two holes are alike, and the pure scale of the land makes each hole feel worlds apart from the others. An ever changing wind cools the course in the summer and challenges the golfer to choose the correct club or face the consequences. The course will challenge the scratch golfer from the back tees while still providing a very playable test from the shorter tees to accomodate the average golfer. In addition to extraordinary golf, the private membership facility will offer world class amenities that include swim, tennis, fitness, pointe pavilion and a full service clubhouse. Mountain style houses, cabins and villas with fantastic views will provide lodging for members and their guests. * Full Practice facility with four target greens * Practice area for putting, chipping and bunker play * EZGO electric cart fleet * Golf Shop with balls, gloves and apparel available * Snack bar with sandwiches, snacks and beverages available * PGA teaching staff available for both individual and group instruction * 3,000 square foot pavilion available for parties, receptions and golf outings * Group events and tournament management services * Rental accomodations on site-nightly and weekly rentals available Planned Amenities * Free form swimming pool and tennis courts * Hiking trails * Fishing lakes * Bluff side clubhouse with golf shop, locker rooms and dining * State of the art fitness center and spa If you are visiting the Canyon Ridge Club for the first time, there are a few things that we would like you to know to ensure an enjoyable round of golf for all. Upon your arrival at the club entrance, the guard will then check your name from the list of pre-registered golfers. You will then be directed to the golf shop parking area. An attendant will confirm your time and place your golf bag on a golf cart. Once you have parked your vehicle, please proceed to the golf shop counter to check in. You will be given a receipt to give to the starter prior to beginning your round. Golf Club Rentals For your playing convenience, the club carries Titleist rental clubs. The sets rent for $40 each and may be reserved in advance by calling the golf shop at (706) 398-0882. The practice facility features four target greens, and we utilize two separate hitting areas that are on a rotation based on time of year and conditioning. The area in use will have hitting stations pre-set with practice balls for your convenience. You may also use the short game area and putting green prior to your round of golf. * You are asked to check in with the starter at least five minutes prior to your starting time. This will ensure that our staff member has an opportunity to familiarize you with the cart rules of the day, and any other information that may be pertinent to your golf course experience. We ask that each foursome complete their round in four hours and thirty minutes or less. In order to stay on pace throughout your round, we recommend the following: * Please play from the suggested tee markers (refer to scorecard) * Please keep pace with the group in front of you at all times * Please be organized in your club selection and play ready golf * Please spot balls for other players in your group, and limit the amount of time looking for lost balls * The Canyon Ridge Club is know for its outstanding course layout and conditioning. In addition to the efforts of our golf course maintenance staff, members and guests play an important role in our ability to be able to provide and maintain a quality product. We ask that all players take the time to fill in their divots with the sand provided on your cart, and to repair all ball marks made on the greens. On your left is the area that will soon be the site of the Canyon Ridge clubhouse. The clubhouse will overlook the 18th green and provide a panoramic view of the Chattanooga Valley to the east. As you continue down the path you will see our new pavilion and founding member cabins. The pavilion is a 3,000 square foot facility that will be able to accomodate outings, parties, and receptions. It includes bathrooms, stone wood burning fireplace, bar and grill. With its surrounding deck and views of up to fifty miles, a wedding or special event held here would be truly unforgettable. The founding member cabins include a lifetime membership in the club. If you are interested in this limited opportunity, act now as only a few of these sites remain available. Before you drive down to the first tee, stop at the edge of the cliff and enjoy the magnificent view. Hole #1 Par Five The first hole is named "Inspiration Point". Spread before you like a beautiful painting, this hole gives notice that you are at a special place. Seven tees step down the hillside at varying heights and distances. They are framed by native grasses and some of the most unique rock formations that you will ever encounter. The tee shot drops over one hundred and fifty feet to the fairway below. A straight drive is a must as this fairway has one of the narrowest landing areas on the course. Just over five hundred yards, the green is reachable in two for the longer hitters. The second shot must be shaped as the hole curves gently to the left. It is downhill to the green, thus allow for plenty of roll on your second shot. Your approach to the green is best played to the front portion, as the ball tends to release to the back of the green. It is hard to concentrate on your putting as you view historic McLemore Cove in the valley below. The valley is significant to Civil War history as troops were stationed in the cove during the Battle of Chickamauga. Hole# 2 Par Four Just as spectacular as the first, the second hole starts from an elevated tee box to a fairway that unfolds below. With a lake to the left, native grasses to the right, and a creek that runs through the fairway; this is usually not a driver hole. Determine your distance to the creek from the tee box that you are playing, then attempt to land your ball so that it will finish just short of the creek. Your approach shot will be played over the lake to a green that slopes from back to front. Do not miss your approach shot to the right as the creek will swallow any weak shots. The best shot is one that is played to the front of the green, as it is almost impossible to get up and down from behind this green. Hole #3 Par Three This is the shortest of five par three holes on the course. Usually requiring only a wedge for the tee shot, this hole plays downhill to a green that slopes hard from right to left. Play to the right of the flagstick as your ball will roll left after hitting the green. A dry creek bed creates the hazard for any shots hit short or left of the green. Hole #4 Par Four Depending on which tee box you play, this hole requires certain strategy. From the black or blue tee boxes, you must hit a strong tee shot that will carry the rocks and native grasses. Once your ball lands in the fairway, it will kick hard to the left. From the white or red tee tee boxes, the forced carry is much shorter and easier to traverse. From these tees the golfer must be careful to not hit too much club as a hidden creek is in play at the end of the fairway. The approach shot is only a short iron to a green that slopes from right to left, and from back to front. Hole #5 Par Three This uphill hole requires a very accurate tee shot to ensure that your ball ends up on the correct portion of the green. Due to the severe undulations in this green, a shot that comes to rest above the hole will often cause a score of bogey or worse. If the flagstick is in the front or middle portion of the green, play your tee shot to land on the very front of the green. If the flagstick is on the back left tier of this green, you must attempt to have your ball come to rest on that back tier or even just over the back left part of the green. Hole #6 Par Five This hole is one that will get your attention in a hurry. Aptly named the "Ledge", because of the sheer rock drop off between your tee shot and your second shot. Play this hole correctly and a possible eagle or birdie await, miss a shot or two and you can be looking at double bogey or worse. The distance that you want to hit your tee shot will be determined by what tee markers you are playing. As you want to land your tee shot close to the edge of the cliff, but not over the cliff. The best tee shot is one that stays down the left side of the fairway. The second shot drops over two hundred feet to the valley fairway below. Since this is a blind shot, accuracy is of the utmost importance. Again favor the left side of the fairway, as there is a creek to the right of the green that will catch the wayward shot. Hole #7 Par Three The tee boxes on this hole are nestled into the side of the hill with the green located downhill from the tee. The tee shot will play somewhat less than the yardage indicates due to the elevation change. An accurate shot is required as any shots hit weak or to the right will be repelled away from the green. One of the prettiest holes on the course. Hole #8 Par Four Before arriving at this hole one must traverse a cart path that rises almost three hundred feet from the seventh green. Many a golfer have reported that they would gladly pay just to be able to enjoy the beautiful ride through the woods and to view the rock outcroppings. The course transitions into a thick meadow of native grasses and forest. This hole is one of the easiest on the course and should yield a good birdie opportunity. Hole #9 Par Four A hole that will truly test your game. A forced carry off the tee over a wide canyon must also be accurate as dense forest borders both sides of the fairway. The approach shot is just as tough, with a green that slopes from back to front. Aim your approach shot to the right as balls that hit short of the green will roll from right to left. Stay underneath the hole as putts from above the hole are very fast. Hole #10 Par Four This is a classic risk/reward hole. A long drive at the left side of the green may be rewarded with a putt for eagle. But a drive that is hit down the right side of the fairway will find a native grass area that is only about two hundred and fifty yards from the blue tee. The safe shot is a long iron down the left side of the fairway, with a slight fade. This will leave only a short iron to a wide, but shallow green. Hole #11 Par Three A pretty hole that plays downhill from the elevated tee boxes. One of the largest greens on the course offers a great birdie chance for a well struck tee shot. Balls hit short of the green will roll from left to right. Hole #12 Par Five Probably the most difficult hole on the course, and usually requires three well played shots to reach the green in regulation. From the back tees a tee shot of two hundred and forty yards is required just to reach the fairway. Once your ball hits the fairway, it will roll hard from left to right. The best tee shot is one that is played down the left side of the fairway. The second shot must again carry a creek and native grass to a narrow fairway that moves uphill toward the green. Add one more club for your approach shot to the green that is elevated above the fairway. Hole #13 Par Three A downhill tee shot over a lake, this hole plays slightly less than the yardage suggests. This green is very deep as a hole location in the back of the green may require up to two clubs more than a front hole location. Hole #14 Par Four This hole plays uphill all the way to the green. A well played shot that lands just short and right of the green will almost always roll left onto the green. Another deep green with a slight terrace on the back left of the green. Putts will break toward the road more than they appear. If you are ever lucky enough to play this hole late in the evening, the fifty mile view of the setting sun can be be absolutely stunning. Hole #15 Par Four Another beautiful hole that plays downhill all the way to the green. Driver is not usually needed as a creek winds its way across the fairway about three hundred yards from the back tee. A short iron approach to a green that releases balls towards the back of the green. The green is an optical illusion as it actually slopes from front to back. Hole #16 Par Four A strong hole that rquires a long tee shot down the left side of the fairway. A hidden creek crosses the fairway in front of the green. If you can't carry the hazard there is no shame in laying up to one hundred yards and hitting a wedge to the green for your third shot. This green is usually firm and slopes from left to right. Hole #17 Par Five This hole runs downhill all the way to the green, thus playing much shorter than the yardage indicates. The widest fairway on the course invites you to hit your longest drive of the day. The second shot will usually run on the firm fairway. Hit less club than normal as the approach shot will also run onto the green. This green is another optical illusion as it slopes from front to back. Hole #18 Par Four The course routing has come full circle as you are now back playing along the same bluff that you started on. Enjoy the vista to your left as you savor this dramatic finishing hole. The tee shot plays slightly uphill and must avoid rock boulders in the middle of the fairway. The best line of play is just to the right of the rocks. A solid tee shot will leave you with a mid to long iron approach to the green, which sits precariously on the other side of a chasm. A great shot will be rewarded with a birdie putt. If you rather not attempt to carry the chasm, a safe bail out is provided to the right of the green. This final green slopes from right to left. |
